  5. DMF is used as a solvent to recover olefins such as 1,3-butadiene via extractive distillation.
  6. It is also used in the manufacturing of solvent dyes as an important raw material. It is consumed during reaction.
  7. Pure acetylene gas cannot be compressed and stored without the danger of explosion. Industrial acetylene is safely compressed in the presence of dimethylformamide, which forms a safe, concentrated solution. The casing is also filled with agamassan, which renders it safe to transport and use.

  9. As a common and cheap reagent, DMF has many uses in the research laboratory.
  10. DMF is effective at separating and suspending carbon nanotubes, and is recommended by the NIST for use in near infrared spectroscopy of such.[15]
  11. DMF can be utilized as a standard in proton NMR spectroscopy allowing for a quantitative determination of an unknown compound.
  12. In the synthesis of organometallic compounds, it is used as a source of carbon monoxide ligands.
  13. DMF is a common solvent used in electrospinning.
  14. DMF is commonly used in the solvothermal synthesis of Metal Organic Frameworks.
  15. DMF-d7 in the presence of a catalytic amount of KOt-Bu under microwave heating is a reagent for deuteration of polyaromatic hydrocarbons.

Introduction-
MEK is an effective and common solvent and is used in processes involving gums, resins, cellulose acetate and nitrocellulose coatings and in vinyl films. For this reason it finds use in the manufacture of plastics, textiles, in the production of paraffin wax, and in household products such as lacquer, varnishes, paint remover, a denaturing agent for denatured alcohol, glues, and as a cleaning agent. It has similar solvent properties to acetone but boils at a higher temperature and has a significantly slower evaporation rate. Butanone is also used in dry erase markers as the solvent of the erasable dye.
As a plastic welding agent 
As butanone dissolves polystyrene and many other plastics, it is sold as "model cement" for use in connecting parts of scale model kits. Though often considered an adhesive, it is actually functioning as a welding agent in this context.

Industrially, it is also prepared by controlled oxidation of butane, by dry distillation of calcium acetate and calcium propionate, or by refluxing methyl acetoacetate and diluted H2SO4.- Catalytic dehydrogenation of sec-butyl alcohol in the gaseous phase; ... byproduct of the Fischer-Tropsch coal-to-liquid process; ... liquid-phase oxidation of n-butane; ... oxidation of sec-butylbenzene according to the Hock Phenol synthesis; direct oxidation of n-butenes (Hoechst-Wacker Process).

  • Formaldehyde has been found as a contaminant in several bath products, at levels from 54-610 ppm: it is thought to arise from the breakdown of preservatives in the products most frequently diazolidinyl urea. Since 2006, formaldehyde (methylene glycol) is also used in hair smoothing treatments in order to straighten wavy/curly hair and make hair less prone to frizz under high humid weather.
